Nordic Championships 2014 – Bygland, Norway

Just a few weeks before the competition in Bygland I got the disturbing feeling that something was wrong.
And it was. The organizers failed to pay and send the cat2 application to the FAI in time. End even if all normal channels (justacro.com, Facebook and so on) had announced this as an cat2 event, FAI could not approve the delayed payment and applicationform.

The competition in Bygland, was the only competition in Norway this season, and the only easy way for norwegian pilots to get FAI ranking points, so this was a very bad situation.

From ‘Epic fail in Colombia’ to ‘Epic 200k in the USA’ the paragliding comp scene has seen some big moments in 2014 so far. Not all of them have been pretty, but for many pilots taking part the politics and wrangling over wings has simply been an unwanted distraction from what’s really important: flying fast in […] …read more

European Slalom Championships, which took place last week 21-26 of July in Couhe, France, were the 2nd FAI category 1 slalom competition in the history of the sport.

Competitors from eight countries came together for this event.

Alex Mateos led the competition at the start, ahead of some very strong pilots, and in the end the difference between the top four pilots was incredible small, measured in hundredths of a second.

In addition to the traditional slalom elimination format, one task was run in teams, where 4 pilots from the same nation flew tasks in the form of a relay-race.

Alex won a gold …read more

Ozone Chabre Open – Video

The Ozone Chabre Open is, as Jocky Sanderson says in this video, “Basically just a giant XC course”, where pilots can come together to learn about competition and XC flying in a fun and friendly environment under the guidance and tutelage of more experienced pilots. Over the past nine years hundreds of pilots have experienced the thrill of reaching “goal” for the first time in a comp, and learned about GPS competitions and XC flying. This video, by Lawrie Noctor, shows some nice images from the event and summarizes what it’s all about. A sincere thanks to Lawrie for putting …read more

Ozone Pilots Dominate PWC Krushevo

At the most recent PWC vent in Krushevo, Macedonia, 33 out of the top 40 pilots flew Ozone. The top eight spots were all Ozone wings, and the top three podium finishers were all within three points of each other. Such a close race is rare in our sport, and it was fascinating to see three amazing pilots with different styles finish the comp so closely together. Stephan Morgenthaler’s style of flying is to constantly try something different outside the gaggle, finding amazing lines, and often able to finish far in front. Yassen, who’s style is to fly low and …read more
